Bglobal PLC
Back to Company Information
Bglobal is based in Darwen, United Kingdom and has around 144 employees. Through its subsidiaries, Bglobal provides services and metering technology to deregulated energy markets within the United Kingdom. Their services for managing gas and electricity utilities include:
- Analysis tools that inform customers and help them make decisions on energy
- Data collection (for both settlements and billing)
- The installation and maintenance of smart meters and sub-meters
Bglobal started in 2004 with the idea that smart metering could be a real, viable, low cost opportunity that every business in the United Kingdom could take advantage of. The United Kingdom electricity market is measured and priced every half hour, which means that electricity could be at a different price each half hour. Traditional meters generate estimated bills. Originally, only around 50,000 of the largest energy consumers had access to expensive meters and hardwired data connection feeds every half hour that allowed them to profit from the different prices and get the “correct” bill.
The founders of Bglobal strongly believed there was a better way to measure electricity usage that would allow customers real control by giving them access to useful energy data and thus drive down costs. They created Bglobal to bring to every business (large or small) the benefits of fully automated, remotely read meters. To date Bglobal has installed over 100,000 business meters, making them the leader in providing smart metering. Some of their customers include gas and electric companies.
Energy Services from Bglobal
Bglobal provides several ground-breaking Energy Management services for their business customers. They are:
- Energy Procurement Services – Bglobal has consultants that dedicate their time to monitoring the individual strength and weaknesses of each energy supplier in the current market place and the energy market as a whole. Your energy tender will be prepared by Bglobal consultants. Then they send it out to the market, receive the replies and report back to your organization. The consultants will be available to give you professional, unbiased advice to help you reach a decision and then they will help you with the process of switching energy providers.
- Multi Utility Installations (electricity, water and gas) – Bglobal provides a variety of solutions to allow collection of data from multiple utilities. For example, with the addition of data hub devices the company’s electricity smart meter can store profile data for other utilities and makes it ready to be collected remotely the same time as the data for the electricity. It is one of the many cost effective solutions created by Bglobal.
- Analysis Tools – At any time customers can easily access and look at their energy consumption profiles and data in a graphic report format using a web browser. This is made possible by the WebAnalyser Module and is a part of Bglobal’s comprehensive Web-based Energy Management System. In addition, Bglobal also makes available Energy Efficiency analysis tools to help customers identify savings in energy.
- Bill Validation – Upon installation of Bglobal’s smart meters, the company can validate bills issued by an energy supplier using the data they have collected. It is possible that overcharges could be found and recovered.
- Virtual Energy Manager – For those who do not have the time or resources available to take advantage of the WebAnalyser services, Bglobal provides a managed service in which their expert Energy Analysts review your sites energy usage and report back with ways you can save energy.
- Sub-Metering – Sub-metering in non-settlement applications allows customers to manage their consumption by monitoring energy usage for equipment, floor spaces, individual rooms, etc. A sub-meter is usually installed alongside the main meter and the data is retrieved with the same system. It is then made available to customers by either a web connection or Bglobal’s web-based energy management software package. Customers can identify and manage areas of large consumption using sub-meters, and discover and implement practices to save energy.
