The Woolworths name was bought for an undisclosed sum from the administrators (along with the childrenswear brand, Ladybird) by Shop Direct. Shop Direct has the catalogue brands Kays and Marshall Ward. They also own Littlewoods.
Shop Direct is owned by the Barclay brothers who also own the Telegraph and the Ritz.
The Barclay brothers are fairly 'media shy' and live on the island of Brecqhou (near Sark in the Channel Islands).
They are joint 40th in the Sunday Times rich list with an estimated fortune of £1.7bn.
