Thanks for that Rocco. I am not sure where Eudidy is based and whether he meant a China/Caijing based forum. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to how UK based investors can trade dirctly in Chinese quoted companies.

sure. there a different ways for foreign investors.

first of all the chinese market is divided in two kind of shares. A-shares and B-Shares. A-Shares are only for domestic chinese investors. B-Shares are tradable in HKD or USD and are open for every one.

At the Hong Kong Stock Exchange there are H-Shares listed, which are companies based in Mainland China, but traded at the HK Exchange in HKD. The HK market is open for all investors as well.

Detailed information you can ask directly to FNCHN http://edu.fnchn.com/

Many questions are answered very detailed here http://edu.fnchn.com/List.aspx?id=43

OK. From my perspective I would look to the HK market which is quite tradeable from London, then look at ETfs or funds from investment into Chinese companies. Presumably, I am a bit behind the times: Is it easy to trade chinese stocks listed in China in London? Are the stocks that are available liquid? Can the domestic and non-domestic thing create a problem? Are IPO s available to 'outsiders'? I can't even remember their exchanges!! Is it Shanghai and ??
Thanks for your info. Where are you based?

1) yes the hk market is the easiest way for foreigners to trade chinese stocks. and it is accessible from all over the world.

but not all chinese companies are listed there. same like in london, china or singapore. and many small companies who are listed in overseas exchanges are not really "good" companies. many of them are fakes. especially in the low market segments. most of the stocks arent very liquid.

Some IPO are available to foreigners. But you have to differentiate between A and B Shares. A Shares are only for Chinese national investors. B Shares are open for everyone.

large corporations like Petrochina etc. are tradable nearly everywhere.

The stock exchanges are in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

I am based in Shenzhen.

Thanks Bentley, but I can't imagine IG Index being much good for all overseas markets. I cannot trade Australian stocks (at least SB) and some of the AIM stocks are not easy or even accessible.
Perhaps you would give me evidence to the contrary.
