ARM shares up- Intel buys Infineon

Intel has just acquired Infineon's wireless unit for $1,4bn. marking a further step by the chip maker to expand it's wireless devices. Smartphones and other mobile devices are faster growing segments as opposed to consumer PCs. Intel needs to invest substantially in this area. The mobile device market is dominated by Arm Holdings due to designs that use very little electronic power and therefore extended battery life. Ironically, Infineon makes chips using Arm's architecture: Intel may have to promote the technology they are competing against.
