BP expects the blown out well to be completely sealed and declared permanently dead sometime today (18th September) or Sunday as engineers pump cement in. Initially mud was going to precede the cement but a BP spokesman said this was unnecessary as there was no pressure build up in the well.

John Wright, a contractor who led the team drilling the relief well aboard the Development Driller III vessel said. "I am ready for that cigar now!"
