Hi AC,

Probably the easiest way is to buy an ETF (See our article about ETFs). One that tracks the FTSE100 index is Barclays iShares FTSE100 (ISF.L) Price as I write is around 436p to buy. This is quoted on the London Stock Exchange and is traded just like any other share.

Apart from ETFs, you have index trackers (OEICS), FTSE Future, FTSE100 Options, Spread Betting FTSE Futures and Options and CFDs. And, of course, you could buy every share in the FTSE100!

In most cases I would think the ETF route is the easiest, especially as an investment rather than a speculative trade.
