Hi Alan
First off I am not going to advise you directly on BG. Partly because I don't know your circumstances, your investment profile or details of the rest of your portfolio. And partly because we are not authorised to give investment advice. Quoting Goldman Sachs: very encouraged by management comments pointing towards potentially higher recovery rates in Brazil than originally assumed and higher profitability for the Curtis LNG project." Reckons BG is a company with a unique asset base and one of the best track-records to create value through exploration and development. Reiterates buy rating. Shares closed Friday at 1112p.
As you say there are bid rumours which may or may not lead to any formal bid but I always believe that any quality stock should be held right to the end in circumstances like this.
Maybe you should analyse your reasons for thinking of selling. Have you made a 'once in a lifetime' profit? No one would blame you for taking the cash out and splashing it on a world cruise with the missus (or whoever). But do you need the cash? If you sell where will you re-invest? Maybe you could sell enough shares to leave the balance in for free? Have you any other liability to CGT? It may be worth taking your annual allowance or, indeed, paying 18% CGT bearing in mind this may very likely be raised soon.
There are many things to consider and I hope I have given you some food for thought.
