Hi Nickit,
When you become a shareholder you become entitled to a share of the company's profits, as dividends. Of course there has to be a cut off point for new shareholders. If you miss the current dividend by buying Ex-Dividend you will, of course, be entitled to each and every subsequent dividend whilst you remain a shareholder.
If you think about it immediately a share goes Ex.Div it becomes Cum Div!
